About the NCCSD and our Clearinghouse

What is the NCCSD?

The National Center for College Students with Disabilities (NCCSD) is a federally-funded project under the U.S. Department of Education (P116D150005) and administered through the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education (FIPSE). The NCCSD is based with a non-profit organization called the Association on Higher Education And Disability (AHEAD).  Our home page is at nccsdonline.org - you can find contacts for our staff and learn more about our work.

What are the NCCSD and Clearinghouse doing?

Our mission is taken from the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008, and it has four purposes:
  • To provide assistance to all college students with disabilities and their families, by responding to individuals' questions, using social media, maintaining this Clearinghouse, and by activities run by our national student group -- DREAM.
  • To provide assistance to colleges and universities, including faculty and disability services providers
  • Collect information and research about disability services at campuses in the United States
  • Report to the U.S. Department of Education about the current status of college students with disabilities in the U.S.

The Clearinghouse is one product of the NCCSD. Other services and activities include answering calls from students, families and professionals, maintaining a social media presence and conducting research. We welcome your feedback about this site and encourage you to take a look at the evolving list of reviewers who have helped us create and edit this site.

The National Center for College Students with Disabilities (NCCSD) was developed through a four-year grant from the Office of Postsecondary Education, U.S. Department of Education (P116D150005), and administered through the Office for Postsecondary Education (originally funded via the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education). This grant funding ended on September 24, 2021. NCCSD is seeking additional funding at this time in order to continue.

The NCCSD is based at the Association on Higher Education And Disability (AHEAD).  Please see caveats on the home page about assuming the NCCSD, AHEAD or the US Dept. of Education agree with all content on linked pages, and we can't guarantee the accessibility of other sites.
