10-week Summer Internship at HERL for students with Spinal Cord Injury

The Human Engineering Research Laboratories (HERL) at the University of Pittsburgh is offering a 10-week summer research internship for students with Spinal Cord Injury (SCI).

The goal of the program is to increase the number of individuals with SCI who pursue STEM-related degrees and careers by providing them the opportunity to engage in active research with peers who themselves have SCI. A maximum of six (6) students will be accepted in the initial cohort.
 
The program provides a stipend, free housing, a travel allowance, and funds to assist with nurse/attendant care.  The following link provides additional program details, along with instructions on how to apply:

Institute for Broadening Participation (IBP)
The mission of the Institute for Broadening Participation is to increase diversity in the Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) workforce. We design and implement strategies to increase access to STEM education, funding, and careers, with special emphasis on reaching and supporting individuals from under-served communities and underrepresented groups, including underrepresented minorities, women, persons with disabilities, first generation college students, and students from under-served communities. Disability:IN mentoring program is accepting applications

​. Disability:IN, an organization with 185 leading companies across the country dedicated to increased inclusion for individuals with disabilities, is accepting applications for it's NextGen Initiative mentoring program. Apply at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/2020NextGenApp

Students and recent grads are paired with mentors from one the companies linked above in a professional area most closely matching their own professional interest. The mentoring experience begins in February  and continues until the end of July.  Most mentoring will take place remotely, but sometimes students are invited to corporate headquarters (expenses paid) to have a face to face meeting. There's only room for 200 students nationally so please Apply Soon!

​In 2021, a federal discretionary grant (P116D210002) was awarded via  the National Center for Information and Technical Support for Postsecondary Students with Disabilities Program (NCITSPSD) to the University of Minnesota’s Institute on Community Integration (ICI-UMN), in full partnership with the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) and is authorized by Congress in the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (777.4). 

The NCITSPSD program grant was originally awarded in 2015 (P116D150005) to the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD).
