Teaching Online

Ideas, news and resources from a variety of sites to help you plan online and hybrid classes in light of restrictions and new policies related to the COVID-19 virus. This section will be updated periodically through the Summer.

  • Planning an event or lecture?  Get resources for inclusive event planning
  • Inclusive Higher Education Pedagogy information from Rochester Institute of Technology, including disability but also English language learners, first-generation college students, and more
  • Learn more about teaching students with disabilities in STEM fields, including medical and healthcare fields
  • Explore the interdisciplinary fields of disability studies and Deaf studies, including lists of campuses with degree programs

Legal Rights and Responsibilities of Faculty

  • Learn about the roles, rights and responsibilities of instructors, students, and disability services in providing academic accommodations to students with disabilities

Resources for Faculty, Instructors, and Teaching Assistants with Disabilities

  • Chronically Academic and the National Association of Disabled Staff Networks are for academics and staff (sic) with disabilities and chronic conditions, offering mutual support and resources. Both of these organizations are based in the UK and both have members from other countries.
  • Promoting Supportive Academic Environments for Faculty with Mental Illnesses: Resource Guide and Suggestions for Practice
  • A bibliography of resources for instructors who have disabilities
  • Learn how recent changes in immigration law affect students, faculty and staff with disabilities
  • Read recommendations for addressing sexual assault and college students with disabilities from the National Council on Disability
  • The U.S. Department of Labor has a return-to-work toolkit for employees coming back to work after medical leaves

​In 2021, a federal discretionary grant (P116D210002) was awarded via  the National Center for Information and Technical Support for Postsecondary Students with Disabilities Program (NCITSPSD) to the University of Minnesota’s Institute on Community Integration (ICI-UMN), in full partnership with the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) and is authorized by Congress in the Higher Education Opportunity Act of 2008 (777.4). 

The NCITSPSD program grant was originally awarded in 2015 (P116D150005) to the Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD).
