Getting Started in College

  • Check out the VA Campus Toolkit for common resources you can find at your college or university

  • Student Veterans of America ensure today’s and tomorrow’s veterans are supported in their transition to education and employment. Search for "disabilities" to find specific information.
 
  • VetSuccess on Campus is a federal program that works with Vocational Rehabilitation to help veterans transition from military service to college; it's available on 94 campuses around the country
 
  • What should veterans look for in colleges with programs for veterans?  Military.com published information, and we also recommend you take a look at the NCCSD resources for exploring and comparing disability services offices, as well
 
  • The Wounded Warrior Project provides educational services to members -- 33% of those involved in the WWP are in college
 
  • Get information about transferring college credits you may have earned from other campuses, or during your active duty
  • Do you or your family need immediate assistance with a crisis of any kind?  Contact the Veterans crisis line -- there are accessible options to call, text, chat online, or use a TTY, or look at our list of hotlines and crisis resources

Financial Aid

  • Dependents of disabled veterans may be eligible for assistance with funding college and training programs, like apprenticeships; the US Department of Veterans Affairs has more information

  • The VA's National Center for PTSD - handouts, posters and flyers that you can use to raise PTSD awareness
 
  • Online self-help courses to help you and your family cope with PTSD and related problems
 
  • Make the Connection shares stories from vets, and can connect you to information about disabilities, local VA resources, and treatment centers for PTSD and other conditions

The National Center for College Students with Disabilities (NCCSD) is funded through a four-year grant from the Office of Postsecondary Education, U.S. Department of Education (P116D150005), and administered through the Office for Postsecondary Education (originally funded via the Fund for the Improvement of Postsecondary Education).
